An intimate retreat center within a national park
The Learning Center is the residential field campus for North Cascades Institute, a nonprofit organization established in 1986 to conserve and restore Northwest environments through education. Natural history programs for people of all ages take place at the Learning Center throughout the year including family getaways, volunteer stewardship activities, seminars, summer youth adventures and our award-winning Mountain School program for young people.
The primary use of the Learning Center is to serve as a home for North Cascades Institute educational programs. However, as our educational calendar allows, we meet the needs of groups who want to experience the North Cascades through educational retreats and conferences. Preference for booking is given to organizations whose mission and values are consistent with North Cascades Institute, especially peer conservation organizations and educational groups. Conference fees help subsidize youth education programs and scholarships for low-income participants.
Please call us anytime to learn more about the Learning Center and the opportunities it can offer your organization or company. For a personal tour or more information, please contact Brooke Larrabee, Development Coordinator, at 360-856-5700 or brooke_larrabee@ncascades.org.

About the architecture
2005 Merit Award -- Northwest Washington Chapter/American Institute of Architects
North Cascades Environmental Learning Center offers outdoor education programs for people of all ages. In addition, the center is a living model of conservation to teach people about earth-friendly building practices while complementing its unique wilderness setting. It was designed to be a simple, long-lasting example of resource stewardship with a high degree of commitment of sustainable materials and systems and has earned a silver LEED rating.
The center was designed by The Henry Klein Partnership, Mount Vernon, Washington. David Hall, partner, served as lead architect. Dawson Construction Company, Bellingham, Washington, served as general contractor.
Conference facilities
Learning Center classrooms, labs and libraries offer spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and provide excellent conference space and meeting accommodations. The spirit of the campus is one of refined, understated natural beauty. Throughout interior and outside spaces, the natural world and striking landscape of the North Cascades are close and accessible. Snow-capped peaks tower overhead. High country ravens circle the Douglas fir and sightings of a variety of plants and wildlife are just outside your door.
Experienced staff naturalists serve as highly qualified teaching guides, providing informal natural history education that adds depth and meaning to the conference experience.
North Cascades Environmental Learning Center is an intimate, comfortable setting that accommodates people with a wide range of interests and physical abilities. Lodges and public conference areas are wheelchair accessible. Trails to the Deer Creek and Lily Shelters are also wheelchair accessible.
